Beginner's Guide: Security in Crypto

In the world of crypto, you are your own bank—which means security is your responsibility. At RocketFuel, we’re committed to helping you protect your assets, avoid scams, and stay ahead of security threats.

Why Crypto Security Matters

Holding crypto means you’re in control—but with great power comes great responsibility. Without proper security, your funds could be vulnerable to hacks, phishing scams, and costly mistakes

Our goal is to help you minimize risks and maximize security so you can focus on growing your portfolio.

Here’s how you can secure your assets today:

#1: Never Share Your Recovery Phrase—Ever.

Your recovery phrase (seed phrase) is the master key to your wallet. If someone gets access to it, they can drain your funds—no exceptions.

Warning: No legit company (including RocketFuel) will ever DM you asking for your seed phrase, private keys, or passwords. If someone asks, they’re a scammer.

Pro Tip: The ONLY time you should enter your recovery phrase is when manually restoring your wallet on a trusted device.

#2: Enable 2FA on All Crypto Accounts

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) adds an extra layer of security, making it harder for hackers to access your accounts. Instead of simply needing a password to access your sensitive accounts, 2FA requires a second form of verification for access.

  • Use an authenticator app (Authy or Google Authenticator) instead of SMS for 2FA.
  • Activate 2FA on crypto exchanges, wallets, and even your email.

#3: Use a Hardware or Cold Wallet for Long-Term Storage

Your main crypto stack should never be sitting in a hot wallet (connected to the internet).

  •  Best practice: Store long-term holdings in a cold wallet (not internet-connected) or use a hardware wallet like Ledger for maximum security.
  • Cold wallet = Safest option for large holdings.
  • Hot wallet = For daily transactions only.

#4: Store Your Wallet Information Securely—Offline.

Never save your private keys, seed phrase, or crypto passwords in a digital document (Google Drive, Notepad, screenshots, etc.).

Write them down on paper and store in a secure location.
For extra protection, consider safety deposit boxes or multi-signature security for high-value holdings.

#5: Stay on High Alert for Phishing Scams

Phishing scams are one of the biggest threats in crypto. Scammers create fake websites or impersonate trusted platforms to steal your info.

How to spot phishing scams:

  1. Check the URL carefully before entering any login details.
  2. Never click on suspicious links in emails, DMs, or Telegram messages.
  3. Bookmark official sites to avoid imposters.

#6: Always Test a New Wallet Before Transferring Large Amounts

Setting up a cold or hardware wallet? Always test it first to ensure your recovery phrase works correctly. A small mistake (like writing down a word incorrectly) can lock you out forever.

  • After creating a wallet, restore it using your recovery phrase to confirm it’s correct.
  • When sending funds to a new wallet, always send a small test transaction first.

🚨 Never send crypto to a smart contract address unless you 100% understand what you're doing.

Final Thoughts: Security = Freedom

At RocketFuel, we want you to be empowered, not paranoid. By following these steps, you’ll significantly reduce your risk of hacks, scams, and lost funds—so you can focus on winning in crypto.

Having a well-defined exit strategy is essential to make informed, rational decisions and avoid emotional reactions to market swings. A sell strategy helps investors lock in profits, minimize losses, and maintain peace of mind. Exit Strategies: Price Targets vs. Timeframes There are two primary approaches to structuring an exit plan: Price Targets: Selling at predetermined price points or profit levels. Timeframes: Selling at set intervals, independent of price movements (e.g., Bitcoin’s four-year halving cycle). Practical Examples Let’s consider Chris, an investor who accumulated Bitcoin (BTC) in 2019 and 2020 but hesitated to sell during the 2021 bull run, missing potential profits. Learning from this experience, Chris now plans to implement a structured sell strategy. Common Sell Strategies 1. Percentage-Based Strategy ( %) Investors set price targets and sell a specific pe...

Beginner's Guide: Technical Analysis (TA)

How to Perform Technical Analysis on Cryptocurrencies Technical analysis (TA) is a crucial tool for crypto traders and investors, just as it is in stock trading. Regardless of the asset being analyzed, TA provides a visual representation of price movements over time, helping traders make informed decisions based on historical data. In the crypto space, the term "TA" is commonly used to describe this approach, which attempts to predict future price action by studying past trends. You may also hear traders refer to "charting," which is simply another way of describing technical analysis. The Role of Charts in Technical Analysis Technical analysis relies on price charts to identify patterns and trends. Without charts, TA as we know it wouldn’t exist. Analysts use these tools to examine price behavior and make predictions about potential market movements. There are several types of charts used in TA, but three of the most common are: Line charts Bar charts Candlestick c...
